From August 25-30, 2025, Associate Professor Huang Jirong led 19 outstanding undergraduates from theSchoolof Pharmacy on a transformative week-long academic exchange in Singapore. The program broadened students’ global perspectives and enhanced their international competitiveness through immersive visits to top-tier universities.
Exploring Cutting-Edge Research at NUS
At the National University of Singapore (NUS), ranked Asia’s top university, the delegation engaged with leading researchers. In Professor Wu Jie’s lab, students observed the integration of automated synthesis and continuous flow chemistry. Dr. Fang showcased high-throughput platforms, demonstrating how advanced technology accelerates precise molecular creation. Students eagerly discussed technical details and applications, captivated by the synergy of speed and accuracy in modern drug development.

At the Mechanobiology Institute, Professor Yan Jie introduced the emerging field of mechanobiology, blending science and art. He demonstrated automated pipetting systems and high-precision microscopes used to apply controlled micro-forces to single cells, observing real-time changes in morphology and signaling pathways. A student seminar with doctoral candidates provided insights into overseas PhD applications, inspiring cross-disciplinary curiosity.

Dr. Xavier Chee at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine delivered a lecture on precision medicine, detailing its trends and NUS’s innovative curriculum. His vision of personalized, data-driven, interdisciplinary healthcare sparked lively discussions on real-world applications and future prospects.

The delegation also visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU), exploring its dynamic educational environment. Dr. Ding Han guided students through iconic campus architecture and modern teaching facilities, highlighting how innovative spaces empower learning.
