On the evening of May 26 in midsummer, the 26th "Ode to the Youth" cultural gala with the theme "Crossing the Sky" was held on the third floor of the student dining hall, in order to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the 115th anniversary of Tongji Medical College. Many people attended the show, including deputy chiefs of the medical student office —Shen Xinmin and Zhou Xinyu, deputy chief of medical postgraduate office —Li Qiang, general manager of Huatong Corporation —Chen Weibin, director of the medical International student office of the school of international education —Hong Tao, deputy secretaries of the Party Committee of each school of Tongji Medical College, teachers in various functional departments, secretaries of Youth League Committee of each school, counselors of each school, and leaders, teachers and students of the School of Pharmacy.
At the beginning of the cultural gala, the video "Blossom in youth" produced by the Starstone Drama Club affiliated of the School of Pharmacy brought the audience's thoughts back to the time when they were young in college. With the appearance of three words "Ode to the Youth", the cultural gala officially kicked off. The wonderful opening dance "Compendium of Materia Medica" by students from the grades 2019 and 2020 brought the atmosphere to a climax, and then the first chapter of the show "Starry Stars" began. The chorus "Azalea" brought by the teachers of the School of Pharmacy allowed the audience to look back on the unforgettable period of time and feel the fiery youth of the revolutionary ancestors. The dance "China in Lights" presented by the postgraduates led the audience to approach the remote villages with bright lights, showing the beautiful landscape of China. The first-year students in grade 2021 recited the poem "Time changes, but our original aspiration remains" as a tribute to their alma mater. The fascinating performance of "Song of the Lute Player" brought by Yu Yawei and other students incisively and vividly showed the graceful bearing of ancient Chinese literati. This thrilling song, "Song of the Lute Player", described the scene of Bai Juyi's blue coat was wet with tears and displayed the classical charm of the Chinese lute. After the dance "Covenant of Ice and Fire" performed by the Sports Dance Association, the cultural gala moved on to the second chapter "Moon Rising". The performance "Tongji Anecdotal Stories" brought by four students from pharmacy class 2001 described their life in Tongji Medical College in the form of Three Sentences and a Half, and made the audience laugh and clap constantly. The chorus "Ordinary" performed by postgraduates brought us back to the early days when the people's heroes faced difficulty, and the medics rushed into battle. These students used their songs to pay high tribute to the ordinary heroes in life. The melodrama "The Story of Human Body", brought by the students from grade 2019, told the story of the cells that worked hard in our bodies. These students won the applause of the audience with their exquisite acting skills and humorous lines. Xuan Zehui and other students presented the dance "Tomboy". The moving dance steps showed the beauty of youth and unique amorous feelings like fire burning. The audience waved glow sticks, shouted and laughed heartily. Then the third chapter "White Moonlight" came. Meng Weijin and others sang the intoxicating song "Running Youth", which was sometimes passionate and melodious. At the end of the cultural gala, the graduates from grade 2018 recited the article "Hello Tomorrow" to revisit their past youth and rush to a youth date.
The university grew from Huazhong Institute of Technology in 1952 to Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2022. During these 70 years, countless teachers and students have been cultivated. The college grew from Deutsche Medizinschule in 1907 to Tongji Medical College in 2022. During these 115 years, the culture of Tongji Medical College has been formed. "Ode to the Youth", which has been held twenty-six times, is the witness of the tireless efforts of everybody in the School of Pharmacy and the origin of writing a new chapter of youth. The most beautiful singing and dancing were given as a gift to Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Tongji Medical College for their anniversary celebrations. Looking forward to the future, the journey is long. Everybody in the School of Pharmacy will welcome the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China with practical action, always follow the Party, forge ahead on a new journey!
