Professor Shaozhong Ge, from the Department of Chemistry of National University of Singapore, visited our school and given an exciting report entitled "Selective polyboration of cobalt-catalyzed unsaturated hydrocarbons" on March 16, 2023.
Prof. Ge firstly introduced the extensive applications of cobalt catalysts in chemical synthesis and the history of starting the research on selective polyboration of cobalt-catalyzed unsaturated hydrocarbons in his lab. Then Prof. Ge gave an detailed account of his research by using Co(acac)2and the diphosphine ligand Xantphos as catalysts for defluoroboronation and asymmetric hydroboronation reactions of unsaturated olefins with HBpin. A series of cobalt catalyzed diboronation and triboration of olefins in the process of researching cheap and non-toxic metal catalyzed borohydride of unsaturated hydrocarbon were developed in Prof. Ge’s Lab. These diboronation, chain-walking diborohydride, and triboronation reactions provide convenient pathways for the synthesis of multifunctional diboroalkanes and 1,1,3-triboroalkanes.
Prof. Ge's research shown subtle design changes often lead to completely different results in the entire synthesis process, which has a strong guiding significance for our students. And his report let our students have a deeper understanding ofvitality of organic synthetic chemistry and enhanced the interest in research. Additionally, Prof. Ge's passion on scientific research inspired our students learning hard as well.
